Protector/Protectorship

The title of "protector" is given to the person responsible for overseeing the safety (and normally the governing affairs) of a town, village, or city. In some cases the protectorship can cover a wide area, encompassing several towns.

Many of the towns and cities across the North Broadlands are governed by councils, but the protectorship is by no means a rare form of governance.

Protectors are often chosen by the residents of the area which they oversee, although in some cases they are installed by a remote power (such as a king or a thane, etc.)
