Dragongems

A dragongem is the petrified eye of a dragon.

When a dragon dies, the magic it possessed during its lifetime is said to manifest itself within the creature's eyes. Shortly after death, a dragon's eyes will naturally petrify, becoming nearly as dense and hard as diamonds, and shriking to barely a quarter of the size they were during life.

Because of the potent magic they contain, dragongems have long been sought by enchanters and other mages. Dragongems are often used to adorn and enchant both weapons and armour, and to enhance the effects of certain types of magic.

Some dragons, notably sea dragons , are known to preserve (hoard) the dragongems of ther kin, which they use to enhance their own mastery of magic.
